Message from the President

Nice to meet you. After studying polymer science at university, I have been engaged in research and development for many years in the field of organic semiconductors, particularly organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Through a certain chance, I have been invited to a Chinese university as a professor. I decided to take this opportunity to challenge the fundamental problem of organic semiconductors, which is “precise control of device nano-structures using low-cost coating process.”

Fabricating electronic devices using low-cost coating processes has long been a dream of organic semiconductors. However, solution coating makes it difficult to control the nanostructure of the devices. One idea to address this problem is a bottom-up approach in which devices are assembled by layering small nanoparticles of controlled sizes. Although this approach is very attractive, it requires extremely small nanoparticles for this purpose. We found it difficult with conventional method, so we started our own research on nanoparticles.

We accidentally found a novel physical phenomenon “spontaneous droplet nano splitting” and developed a unique polymer nanoparticle synthesis technology “two-step nano splitting method.” This method enables to synthesize ultra-small polymer nanoparticles as small as 10 nm or less with high precision, and can be applied to a wide range of materials. Our dream remains the same, which is to apply this method to organic semiconductors and bring about innovation, but first we would like to disseminate our established nanoparticle synthesis technology to help various people in need of ultra-small nanoparticles.

Future Vision

1st Stage (2024ᅳ2026)We will conduct custom synthesis business of polymer nanoparticles using our original technology “two-step nano splitting method.” The main targets are expected to be healthcare (medicines, cosmetics, and supplements) and electronics fields, which require small and additive-free nanoparticles.

2nd Stage (2027ᅳ2030)The expensive vacuum evaporation process has been a stumbling block to the widespread use of OLEDs. Since nanoparticle coating has a potential to form complicated device structures, it can be an alternative for the vacuum evaporation process. Using low cost nanoparticle coating process, we aim for innovation in OLED manufacturing.

3rd Stage (2031ᅳ2040)Nanoparticle processing makes it possible to control 3D structure in addition to 2D structures of the devices. The ultimate goal is to ideally control the device nanostructures and create highly efficient hybrid solar cells.
